Jane M. Lommel, Ph.D. - President
Dr. Jane Lommel is an expert in human resource management and workforce development. Her current activities include writing, lecturing, and consulting in such areas as workforce development, best practices in recruiting and retention, re-employment of older and displaced workers, tapping underemployed and underutilized workers, and Internet applications in recruitment and job searching. She speaks to professional associations, workforce investment boards, and business groups on a regular basis.
Jane worked with Hudson Institute on several major projects during the 1990s. She and Workforce 2000 co-author William B. Johnston worked closely on the Human Resources task force of the International Baltic Economic Commission. She was the Chief Editor of the Proceedings of Hudson’s first Workforce 2020 Conference in September 1998. Jane was also a co-author of The Future of Mechanical Engineering, published by the Association of Mechanical Engineering; and The Future of the Vending and Foodservice Industry 1998-2013, published by the National Automatic Merchandising Association. She was one of the lead presenters at the SHRM/Hudson Institute "Winning the War for Talent" in September 2000.
Jane has extensive experience in public and business administration. Early in her career, she worked as a VISTA counselor with inner-city youth in Washington D.C.; a trainer in the use of computer-based planning models with Systems Research Group in Toronto; the Director of Human Resources of Planned Parenthood, Canada; and Director of Training for a genetics development firm. For five years, she served as Director of Educational Technology at the Indianapolis Public Schools, where she supervised the installation of thousands of pieces of computer hardware and software as well as technology training for over 2,000 teachers and administrators.
Jane is also the author of the NetWork series of books about Internet job searching, and of the monthly column NetWorking with Jane Lommel, which appears on Gary Johnson’s Brave New Work World Web site, and also in Workforce Associates’ monthly e-newsletter Workforce Report.
Jane practices what she preaches re attracting and retaining talent to a community. On a volunteer basis, she is the founder and President of a community action group on the northeast side of Indianapolis that has reversed urban blight with extensive beautification projects, close collaboration with landowners to create upscale shopping centers, creation of a police substation to improve local public safety, and increased civic participation with a thriving local Farmers Market.
Jane earned her bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in sociology and demography. She earned a Master’s in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs at Syracuse University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Technology from Kansas State University. She was a founder of the International School of Indiana and is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management as well as the International Association of Career Management Professionals.
