Brian G. Hartz - Associate, Editor of Publications
Brian G. Hartz came to Workforce Associates, Inc. in 2004 as Editor of Publications, taking charge of all printed and electronic materials published by Workforce Associates. Since then his role has expanded to include involvement in the full range of services that Workforce Associates offers, including project design, management, analysis, facilitation, writing, and presentation.
Brian has become an expert in skills gap analysis and its application to workforce strategic planning. He assisted in the final assembly of WFA’s reports for Illinois’ groundbreaking Critical Skills Shortage Initiative (CSSI) in 2004, and went on to manage similar projects for workforce boards in other areas. When WFA began working with the State of Indiana, designing and implementing its own Strategic Skills Initiative (SSI), Brian wrote a methodological guidebook to lead workforce boards and staff through the process of identifying and solving potential deficiencies or shortages of vital workforce skills in their areas. Brian also helped design and lead a training program for the same Indiana workforce boards and staff to build local capacity for this kind of strategic analysis and planning.
Brian has also been active in developing and delivering workforce board training and strategic planning for Indiana and beyond. Recently, the Workforce 101 series of board orientation seminars designed jointly by Dick Judy and Brian have assisted many of Indiana’s workforce boards through a transition to new regions and a broader strategic focus.
Beyond this, Brian’s workforce development experience includes extensive data analysis; discussion and interview facilitation; report design, drafting, and editing; survey design; and many other areas of expertise. He has personally directed several of Workforce Associates’ recent projects, and still retains editorial supervision over all of WFA’s published materials.
Brian attended Indiana University as a Herman B. Wells Scholar, and there earned a Bachelor of Arts With Distinction in Economics and English, garnering a stellar GPA and a Book Award from the Economics Department. He also holds a certificate from IU’s Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP) and a minor concentration in Spanish.
Brian’s past written work as an essayist and journalist has been published in various media, including The Indianapolis Star, The Concord Review, and The Indiana Alumni Magazine.
